2. Excursion to the Falanga Wood
There are those who believe that November is characterized only by rain and clouds but, in reality, it also offers beautiful sunny days ideal for an excursion in the Falanga wood in Ischia: a mix of naturalistic beauty, thanks to its thick and compact chestnut wood, and history of the island. What most characterizes the forest are the numerous green tuff caves, which fell from the top of the Epomeo, then transformed by the farmers of the past in order to create temporary shelters. Unmissable are the millstones for the pressing of the grapes, a trace of the true wine origin of the Ischitans, but there is also the testimony of the genius of the peasants of the time who created the so-called "snow pits", holes dug in the ground to collect snow and hail during winter, so that they could be reused as ice in summer. There are several paths to take to reach Falanga, but the most panoramic is undoubtedly the one from Via Nuova Falanga (Serrara Fontana).
