CONSIGLIATISSIMO!!

Le Castella origins, wonderful calabrian town in Crotone province, get loose in the night times, in a mix of history and myth. The legend, probably from the roman period, tells that the waterlily Calipso lived in one of the little islands of the city, today invisible. La Castella is an important tourist centre, at only few Km from Capo Rizzuto island. Its name comes from the imposing Aragonese Castle, located on an island in the middle of Ionian Sea; the reason of its plural name is in the popular tradition, substaining the existance of other castles covered by the sea, by now. This locality, absolutely to visit, is characterized by cystal water rich of marine fauna.
Reaching Le Castella is not hard, it is infact crica 20 Km from Crotone city. It's possible to arrive by plane (Sant'anna airport), by train arriving to the in train station of Crotone, or by car. Obviously, beeing on the sea, the ideal period to visit the town is during summer, when is possible to enjoy the crystal waters in a scenary of uncomparable beauty. It's advised to visit the beach of Le Castella, one of the most famous in Crotone Province. The sand is very particular, thin and red, vey particular color.
Right in front or the beach rises, imposing, the beautiful Aragonese Castle. Probably the structure was born as a fortress and was inhabited only by soldiers. Inside there is a museum, in which you can admire what's preserved, amogn very ancient cannon balls. The archeological excavations in the fortress, have allowed to discover many building stratifications, th castle has been infact constantly reviewed during the centuries. The major variations are from Carafa Andrea count that, between 1510 and 1526, ordered to built imposing ramparts for the defensive power.
Another interesting place is the local Church of Santa Maria della Visitazione, in which every year, during May, they celebrate the patron feast with the characteristic procession of the painting la Madonna.
Let's not forget the near Capo Rizzuto Island, antoher pearl of the wonderful Calabria.
