Lotzorai

Lotzorai is a municipality of Ogliastra located between two rivers: Pramaera and Rio Girasole. It is an enchanting locality for its beaches and sea but also for its traditions and antique architecture. The urban structure of Lotzorai is characterized by big houses with wide courtyards and narrow streets in the historical centre (following the ancient rural standards). Here are many copper-age settlements and sixth-century punic and roman settlements.

From the coastal area of Lotzorai it is possible to reach the islet of Ogliasta, inhabited by colonies of birds and perfect for the sea lovers thanks to its crystal-clear waters, bottoms full of fishes and archeological evidences. The castle of Medusa was a medieval castle built on the ruins of a punic construction and was a military outpost on the area of the harbour. The Domus De Janas (house of the fairies), group tombs dug in the rock during the copper age 2700-1800 B.C. in the Funde e Monti area, along the provincial road to Talana; these tombs consists of semi-circular communicating cells with quadrangular windows hermetically closed with slabs. According to the sardinian tradition, the Domus de Janas were the houses of kind and evil fairies (called "janas" in sardinian dialect).
