Olbia, called by the Greeks "happy city", overlooks the gulf and includes the beautiful islands of Tavolara and Molara. It is known all over the world for its airport, doorway to the Costa Smeralda and international crossroads for many tourists. It is an important industrial and commercial centre with famous tourist destinations such as Porto Rotondo and Portisco.
There are numerous archeological sites on the territory: the Riu Mulinu nuraghe on the Su Casteddu hill that overlooks the Gulf of Olbia; the giants' grave in Su Monte de S'Aba and the sacred well Sa Tesa. It was conquered by the romans as the thermal baths, the aqueduct (the only intact aqueduct in Sardinia) and a typical roman farm in S'Imbalconadu testify. The landscape is characterized by the typical plants of the mediterranean scrub and its sparkling sea is coloured with every shade of blue.
