The tour of Portugal is a wonderful journey through 16 Portuguese cities. A unique and unrepeatable experience in a country that has written centuries of European history.
Many of the medieval cities we will visit have been recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. A long history of emotions that have been passed down intact with all their artistic power from the Middle Ages to today.
Day 1 Italy, Lisbon
Departure from Italy on a scheduled flight. Arrival in Lisbon and transfer to the hotel. Check-in to the reserved rooms. Meeting with the guide and other participants at 7:30 PM. Dinner at the hotel (depending on arrival time) and overnight stay.
Day 2 Lisbon
Breakfast. Guided tour of the city: the Belém district, Lisbon's area that best represents Manueline architectural style, including the Tower, the Monument to the Discoveries, and the Jerónimos Monastery Church (optional visit to the cloister). Continue with a panoramic tour passing by the Parliament and the splendid Eduardo VII Park. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the historic center: a walk through the Alfama district, the oldest part of the city with wrought-iron terraces and houses covered in azulejos. Visit the 12th-century Cathedral, the Church of St. Anthony (built on the Saint's birthplace), the central Baixa Pombalina district, and the Praça do Comércio, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Tagus River estuary. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3 Lisbon, Óbidos, Alcobaça, Nazaré, Batalha, Fatima
Breakfast. Departure for Obidos, visit the medieval village (12th century), with its walls and cobblestone streets lined with whitewashed houses. Continue to Alcobaça, an important Cistercian monastery from 1153. Inside the church, we will visit the spectacular tombs of the Portuguese Romeo and Juliet, King Pedro I and his lover Ines de Castro (named queen after her death). Then continue to Nazaré, a typical fishing village with a splendid view of the Atlantic Ocean. Continue to Batalha and visit the magnificent 14th-century monastery, built with a perfect combination of Gothic and 'Manueline' art. Free time for lunch during the visits. Arrival in Fatima and an introductory visit to the Marian Sanctuary, which attracts millions of pilgrims from around the world. Check-in to the reserved rooms. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel. Possibility to attend the evening candlelight procession.
Day 4 Fatima, Porto, Guimaraes
Breakfast and departure for Porto. Guided tour of the city: the Ribeira district, a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its colorful façades, labyrinth of alleys, and the Praça do Infante Dom Henrique, representing two different aspects of the city's spirit. Entrance to the Church of St. Francis. Continue with a visit to a wine cellar producing the world-famous port wine, and then depart for Guimaraes, the cradle of Portuguese civilization and the first capital of the independent country in the 12th century. Visit the historic center, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Free time for lunch during the visit. Check-in to the reserved rooms at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5 Guimaraes, Braga, Coimbra
Breakfast and departure for Braga. Visit the Bom Jesus Sanctuary with its spectacular Baroque staircase and the historic center with the ancient Cathedral, demonstrating the great historical importance of this episcopal diocese. Continue to Coimbra, the country's capital for over a hundred years during the medieval period. Visit the historic center and the University, the city's main institution and the most important in the country. Free time for lunch during the visit. Check-in to the reserved rooms. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 6 Coimbra, Tomar, Castelo Vide, Marvao, Evora
Breakfast and departure for Tomar, where we will visit the Convent of Christ within the walls of the Templar Castle, which can be considered a museum of Portuguese architecture due to its representation of all architectural styles from the 12th to the 17th century. Special attention will be given to the window in the Chapter House, considered the most beautiful example of Manueline art. Continue to Castelo de Vide, dominated by its castle and featuring a typical Jewish quarter. Departure for Marvao, a spectacular village enclosed within its own walls, impregnable for centuries. Strolling through its characteristic streets is like traveling back in time. Free time for lunch during the visits. Continue to Evora. Check-in to the reserved rooms. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 7 Evora, Sintra, Cabo da Roca, Lisbon
Breakfast. Visit Evora (a UNESCO World Heritage city), considered an open-air museum due to its numerous historical landmarks: the Roman Temple, the Cathedral, Giraldo Square (a witness to the executions of the Holy Inquisition), the narrow medieval streets, and the Chapel of Bones, which leaves a lasting impression. Continue to the town of Sintra, the favorite village of Portuguese royalty, with its important Palacio Nacional de Vila. Proceed to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe, where you can capture stunning panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Free time for lunch during the visits. Arrival in Lisbon. Check-in to the reserved rooms. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 8 Lisbon, Italy
Breakfast (subject to departure time). Free time until transfer to the airport in time for boarding formalities. Departure for Italy with a scheduled flight.
