Rossano is a waterside town also known as Rossano Calabro, in the middle-east of Cosenza. Its origins are very ancient: it was founded in the eleventh century B.C. and, during the roman age, it had a fundamental role in the control over the Sibari plain. Its landscape is mostly predominated by olive groves, orchards and citrus groves.
In its historical centre, there is the Museo Diocesano e del Codex with the Codex Purpureus Rossanensin, an ancient small greek gospel (sixth century) that has byzantine originis and was recognized as world heritage in the 2015. There are also numerous churches and religious buildings such as the cathedral of Maria Santissima Achiropita, the church of San Nilo, the church of San Bernardino, the church of San Francesco di Paola and the church of Santa Chiara. Moreover, there is the Amarelli licorice museum.
