Overlooking the magnificent Gulf of Squillace like a splendid natural terrace on the Ionian Sea, Sant'Andrea Apostolo dello Ionio is a suggestive town nestled in the southern area of the province of Catanzaro that offers unique sceneries, halfway between the sea and the mountains
The territory of Sant'Andrea Apostolo dello Ionio can be divided into three distinct areas, each with its different naturalistic and landscape characteristics. The marine belt, mainly flat and planted with olive and citrus groves, is bathed by the clear waters of the Ionian Sea and bordered by wide and white beaches. The hilly area boasts suggestive vineyards, olive groves and luxuriant vegetable gardens. Finally, the mountain boasts uncontaminated sceneries that preserve thick chestnut, holm oak and beech woods crossed by the Alaca and Salubro streams that create picturesque waterfalls and hide the ruins of ancient water mills.
No less interesting are the two inhabited centers of S. Andrea Ionio Centro Storico and S. Andrea Ionio Marina. The historic center boasts a spectacular position perched on the top of three hills, with the mountains behind, the first offshoots of the Serre mountains, and facing the sea, with a splendid view, on clear days, of the Gulf of Squillace from Capo Colonna. at Punta Stilo. All enriched by the splendid atmosphere offered by the medieval village characterized by the classic picturesque intertwining of streets and alleys, some of which are still paved in granite. Surrounded by luxuriant vineyards and citrus groves, S. Andrea Ionio Marina is, on the other hand, the tourist resort par excellence. Overlooking the sea, it guarantees its visitors a welcome in the name of courtesy and services for tourists, ranging from two well-equipped tourist villages, to bathing establishments and efficient sports facilities.
