Sciacca, in the province of Agrigento, is a beautiful maritime city full of monuments and churches and famous for its Carnival and wonderful pottery. It is located on the coast of the Canale di Sicilia, in front of the island of Pantelleria and Tunisi. Originally known as Thermae Selinuntinae, Sciacca was founded in the sixth/fifth century B.C. and dominated by greeks, romans, arabs, normans and frankish. Its historical centre is made of different quarters.
Sciacca is a renowned beach locality with thermal centres that attract thousands of italian and foreign tourists every year. The sea, the thermal baths and the Carnival are the main features of Sciacca's tourism. The nightlife lovers can enjoy fun evenings on the seafront full of clubs, bars and restaurants.
Sciacca's gastronomic specialties are the "cucchitelle" and the "tabisca saccense". The cucchitelle are almond-paste pastries filled with citrus jam that have the shape of a half spoon; the tabisca saccense is a peculiar extended pizza with pecorino cheese, anchovy, onion and black olives.
