Torre dell'Orso is part of the Marina di Melendugno, in the province of Lecce. It combines tourist accommodations, hospitality, archeological evidences and uncontaminated nature. It is known for its clean and crystal-clear waters: in fact, this locality was awarded many times with a "bandiera blu FEE", different from the simple "bandiera blu" because this one also rewards the local environmental-protection initiatives.
It is characterized by a fine white-sand beach with crystal-clear waters surrounded by a flourishing mediterranean-scrub pinewood. This earthly paradise also has numerous natural monuments: Torre Costiera, the sixteenth-century coastal tower that resembles the profile of a bear (especially if observed from the sea); the San Cristoforo grotto, populated by sailors and fishermen in the past; the Scoglio delle due Sorelle (the rock of the two sisters), two majestic sea stacks. Its crystal-clear waters are perfect for scuba divers and snorkeling lovers. Here is also located one of the 10 most beautiful natural pools in the world, the "Grotta della Poesia" (the poetry cave).
